During a longer preoccupication with early “abstract” painting like that of the artists of Bauhaus and the Russian suprematists, and in particular the coloured shapes and (spacial) compositions of Lissitzky, I felt something was missing. This, along with a strong fascination for serial photography, was one reason why I chose to use my body as part of the picture - to better feel and comprehend, to make
a “real-life” bridge to these abstractions. It was only afterwards I discovered that Oskar Schlemmer with the Triadic Ballet had already been there, in his way. None- theless, I had found a language to articulate notions and feelings I until then had been unable to express otherwise.
