In Snorre’s Edda, which tells of Thor’s journey to Útgarða-Loki (Loki of the Outyards) in Jotunheim, realm of Giants, Thor tries, among other trials, to raise a rather large cat from the ground; he fails. Still, Útgarða-Loki is impressed at this achievemt, as in reality it is not a cat but the The Worm of Midgard itself, which spans all the way round the human home of Midgard, explaining why Thor only succeeds in raising a single paw.
